Nashville, Tenn. (February 14, 2008) – Nominations were announced today for the 39th Annual GMA Dove Awards, by the Gospel Music Association (GMA). Reunion Records’ Michael W. Smith, co-hosted today’s press conference with Gospel Music Channel’s Elle Duncan. Provident Label Group artists scored an impressive 35 total nominations.
PLG artists recognized this year in key categories include Castings Crowns with four nominations, including the prestigious Artist of the Year, with lead singer/songwriter Mark Hall scoring an additional six on his own, including a nod for Male Vocalist of the Year and as writer of Song of the Year nominee, “East To West,” from Casting Crown’s gold-selling album, The Altar and the Door.
Brandon Heath was recognized in the highly-coveted categories of New Artist of the Year, for the success of his debut project, Don’t Get Comfortable, and Song of the Year, for “I’m Not Who I Was.” The smash-hit from Heath was also recognized in the Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song category.
Krystal Meyers is nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year, for the second year in a row.
Progressive Rock band Leeland picked up nominations in two categories, including Song of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song categories for “Tears of the Saints,” from its debut album, Sound of Melodies.
Modern rock band Red received a nomination in the Rock Recorded Song category for “Break Me Down,” the same category the band won last year.
Christian music veteran, and winner of 40 Dove Awards already, Michael W. Smith, scored three additional nominations this year in categories including Inspirational Recorded Song for “Be Lifted High” from his GRAMMY nominated Stand album; the Special Event Album category for his contribution to Glory Revealed, and the Christmas Album category for his very successful, It’s A Wonderful Christmas album.
The multi-artist Glory Revealed project was recognized in the Special Event Album category, and spawned the Inspirational Recorded Song nominee, “By His Wounds.” Additionally, Third Day’s Mac Powell was recognized with two nods for his performance, production and songwriting work on the Glory Revealed recording.
Additional PLG artists being recognized with nominations this year include: Brian Littrell, for his work on Glory Revealed; T-Bone’s “Name Droppin’,” in both the Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song and Short Form Music Video categories; Flatfoot 56, in the Rock Album category for Jungle of the Midwest Sea; and country music veteran Brenda Lee, in the Country Album category. Also represented by PLG are RCA’s Martina McBride in the Country Recorded Song category and Alabama in the Country Album category.
